Along with the academics the benefits of sports cannot be undermined for the wholesome development of the student. The institute holds annual sports meet during the month of February. Seasonal games and their competitions are held throughout the session. The institute has been a representative of university by respective teams.

Mata Gujri College organises 52nd  Annual Athletic Meet

Mata Gujri College held 52nd annual Athletic Meet on 18th February, 2020. On this occasion, Bhai Gobind Singh Longowal, honorable President of SGPC arrived as a chief guest whereas during the prize distribution ceremony, S. Pritpal Singh Balu, President of NRI Alumni Wing attended this event as the special guest. 21 contingents of more than 1500 students of various departments participated in the march-past with lot of fervour.
President Bhai Gobind Singh Longowal said, "Mata Gujri College is performing incredible academically. Students of this college have earned lot of fame in the fields of education, sports and cultural activities.” He added, "SGPC is contributing for the welfare of Sikh Community, Punjabis and country. It is trying to spread teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji to the whole world.” He also motivated students to participate in sports along with their studies.
Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh welcomed guests and sharing achievements of the college in the field of academics, sports and cultural, said, "Mata Gujri College is committed for the overall growth of students.” He added, "Teachers and students are achieving lot of success on national and international level with their lot of hard work.”
S. Ranjit Singh Libra, Honorary Secretary of College governing body, said, "Students should participate in the sports competitions for the better growth of their body and mind.”
On this occasion, Dr. Parminder Kaur Randhawa (Dean Sports and Head of the physical education department) was honoured for her great service to the college for 26 years. In addition, former students of physical education department who are designated on various posts were also honoured.

NCC cadet Jaspreet Singh secures first place in Satluj Half Marathon

30 NCC cadets and ANO Lieutenant Dr. Amritpal Singh of Mata Gujri College participated in first Satluj Half Marathon organized by Global Peddlers at Shri Anandpur Sahib dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Cadet Jaspreet Singh of Mata Gujri College secured 1st place in 3km race. Cadet Chamkaur Singh and Cadet Gursimran Singh got 2nd and 3rd position respectively in 5km race. Former Education Minister of Punjab Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema arrived as the chief guest of this event and distributed prizes to the winners. Director Principal of the college, Dr. Kashmir Singh congratulated to the students and said, "To serve the country, it is necessary for the NCC cadets to stay physically and mentally fit. Where marathon makes the physically stronger there it also enriches their mind to take better decisions in tough times.” Dr. Amritpal Singh, Incharge NCC unit and ANO Lieutenant, said, "All the credit of this achievement goes to the hard work of NCC cadets.”

 
Mata Gujri College emerges as Champion in Inter College Gatka Competition
Inter-College Gatka Competition was organized at Mata Gujri College, in which 18 teams from various colleges of Punjabi University had participated.Mata Gujri college Boys’ Team emerged as champion in this competition.

Congratulating the team , Director-Principal, Dr Kashmir Singh, said that such competitions not only help in physical development of the players but also make them active and desicive.He encouraged the students to participate in one or the other game.

Head, Department of Physical Education, Dr Parminder Kaur Randhawa said that this success is the result of sincere and hard work of students and training by coach S.Uday Singh.

In this competition, Mandeep Singh (Captain), Amarbir Singh, Ramneek Singh,Jaswinder Singh,Gurparvinder Singh,Jasvinder Singh, Gagandeep Singh and Arshdeep Singh bagged the Champions’ Trophy. The second position was bagged by M.M. Modi College, Patiala. On this ocassion, Controller Examination, Dr. Bikramjit Singh, Prof. Balwinder Singh,Prof. Harjeet Kaur,S. Bahadur Singh (Football Coach) and S.Jaswinder Singh(Hockey Coach) were present.
 

 

Prof Harjeet Kaur (Dept. of Physical Education) won Gold medal at National Level (In 35+ age category) on 27.2.2019 at Dehradun.She will represent India at International Level in Italy & Canada
