Training and Placement Cell organized Job Fair- 24th September 2019
With the aim of providing job opportunities to the students and developing their industrial talent, Training and placement cell of Mata Gujri College organized job fest. Over 1300 students from 42 colleges participated in this event. Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh said, "At present, students are very worried about their future. It is the responsibility of every college to provide employment opportunities to the students in such kind of environment so that the students can build a bright future. Mata Gujri College organizes job fest every year. Students from various colleges participated with lot of enthusiasm in these jobs fests.” He added, “Through this fair, students who will get job opportunities, they will be provided with annual packages of 2.50 lakh to 15 lakhs by the companies.” Dr. Harjit Singh, Dean Placement, said, "In this event, Ventura Securities Limited, ICICI Bank, Zomato, Axis Bank, Raligare Health Insurance company Limited, HDFC Life, Eureka Forbes Limited, Jaro Education, Max Life Insurance, Sechtech Solutions Private Limited, Pegro Frozen Foods Private Limited, Tiwana Oils, Scope Telecom Private Limited, Cyber Defence Intelligence, Raps I-tech, E2IT Private Limited and Common Service Centre participated in this event.” He told, "In these job fests, students can choose jobs according to their talent and interests.” On this occasion, Dr. Kamalpreet Kaur, Pro. Mukesh Kumar, Prof. Saurav Sharma (Placement officer), staff member and students were present.
PG Department of Computer Science starts Technical Training for Students from 14th September 2019
PG Department of Computer Science with an objective of enhancing and improving skill set and knowledge of students has organized Technical Training at week ends. Briefing about the training, Prof Mukesh Kumar, Head of PG Computer Courses said that students of MCA-III, MSc(IT)-II and BCA-III have registered for this training. He further added that it is the best way to acquire as much mastery about their field as possible which helps in building confidence. The students seemed to be very enthusiastic about this training as they can enhance their employability skills and become job ready along with real corporate exposure.
PG Department of Computer Science Organized Industrial Visit
PG Department of Computer Science organized an Industrial Visit of BCA-III year students to CS Soft Solutions, Mohali on 12th September 2019, so as to make them aware about the current job scenario and to exhibit the corporate environment.The students were given three technical sessions, in which they pariticipated enthusiastically.Prof. Harsimrat Deo and Prof. Joga Singh accompanied the students during this visit.
Computer Science Student Welfare Association in Collaboration with District Legal Services Authority organizes “Legal Literacy Camp”-11th September 2019
The Computer Science Student Welfare Association in Collaboration with District Legal Services Authority organized “Legal Literacy Camp” with an aim to promote ‘Legal Literacy and Awareness’ among young students on 11th September 2019 .Honourable Mr Gurpartap Singh Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib, Advocate Ravi Harjiwan Singh and Advocate Brinder Singh Boparai were the guest speakers. The resource persons spoke on Legal Aid, Information and Technology Act and Right to Information Act. Welcoming the guest, Dean Computer Science, Prof Rashmi Arora said that it is the need of hour that we must be aware about our legal rights. The camp began with a very informative video displaying how NALSA (National Legal Services Authority of India) came into existence. The main objective of NALSA is to provide free legal services and to organize Lok Adalats for speedy resolution of cases. The event was intended to notify the students about when and how to obtain suitable legal assistance, acquaint them & make them conscious about their legal rights & responsibility in order to exercise it appropriately, empower them regarding major issues such as domestic violence and generate different kinds of skills and knowledge needed for various tasks in society. The students seemed to be very curious and cleared their queries during the camp.Ms Livepreet Kaur and Ms Pawanpreet Kaur of BCA-II conducted the stage. Dr Harjeet Singh, Head of UG Computer Courses, Prof Mukesh Kumar, Head of PG Computer Courses, Dr Sangeeta Joshi, Prof Manpreet Kaur, Prof Birinder Singh Sarao, Prof Jasmeet Kaur and other faculty members of Computer Science department were present on this occasion.
Workshop on Chemical Lab Safety -6th September 2019
A one day regional workshop on ‘Chemical Lab safety: Concerns and Practices’ was organized by Department of Chemistry of Mata Gujri College. The workshop was organized under the ‘Star College Scheme’ of DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjay Mandal, Dean Academics, IISER Mohali. Prof. Mandal emphasized the huge value of human life and said that it is important to have a safe working environment and practices in chemical labs to prevent injuries and potential loss of life. He stressed the importance of research for development of the country. He emphasized the need of promoting a culture of safety in academic and research laboratories. The workshop included presentations and hands on training on various aspects of lab safety including chemical safety, bio-safety, lab hazards prevention and hands on training in first aid by eminent scientists and experts from reputed organizations. Dr. Yashveer Singh from Department of Chemistry, IIT Ropar delivered a presentation on bio-safety. In the afternoon session, Mr. Rajinder Saini from Red Cross Unit Haryana and Mr. K.K. Saini from Red Cross Unit Punjab gave a demonstration session on first aid techniques to handle the common lab injuries and lab accidents. The workshop was attended by participants from Punjab and neighbouring regions of Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. The participants included teachers, researchers, lab incharges, lab attendants, undergraduate and postgraduate students. Speaking on the occasion, Director-Principal of the college Dr. Kashmir Singh welcomed the participants and congratulated the Department of Chemistry for the initiative. In the valedictory session Prof. Ashok K. Malik, Dean International students and Head Department of Chemistry stressed the need for compulsory lab safety program for every science course having laboratory exposure. The workshop was convened by Dr. Kamalpreet Kaur, Head Department of Chemistry and coordinated by Dr. Kuldeep Kaur. On the occasion, faculty members of chemistry department and other departments including Prof. Anupreet Singh Tiwana, Prof. Simrat Kaur, Dr. Kiran, Prof. Seema Maheshwari, Dr. Satnam Singh, Dr. Amritpal Singh and Dr. Manpreet Kaur were present.

PG Department of Computer Science Organized One-day workshop on “Ethical Hacking and Network Security”.Mr. Deepak Kumar from Ansh Infotech Ltd., Ludhiana was the resource person. He gave information about Mobile Internet, Network Security and Ethical Hacking. Speaking in the inaugural session, Director-Principal, Dr Kashmir Singh said that this workshop will prove to be very beneficial for the students in future. He further added that these days, internet is being used everywhere and with the increased usage of Internet, the problem of Cyber Crime has also enhanced. It is the need of the hour to make the students aware about every aspect of computer networking and to motivate them to work ethically. Dr Harjeet Singh, Head of UG Computer Courses, said that the motive of organizing such workshops is to assist the students in getting placements. He said that when such professionals share their experiences with students, it helps them a lot in the future. Students seemed to be very curious to attend this workshop. PG Department of Computer science in association with Training and Placement Cell organized Job Fest
In an endeavour to provide placements to the students, PG Department of Computer Science in association with Training and Placement Cell, Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, organized a Job Fest which has been a great success both for students and software companies participated. More than 200 students from the 16 different colleges of the region took part in this fest. While speaking on the occasion; Director-Principal Dr Kashmir Singh inspired students with his words to sharpen their skills to match with the expectations of the corporate world. He also mentioned that there is abundance of talent in students and we need to explore it by providing such career opportunities to them. Further he appreciated the initiative of PG Department of Computer Science for organizing this event. Dean, Department of Computer Science, Prof Rashmi Arora said “The department will conduct some more Mega Job Fairs for the students in near future. She also mentioned that during the recruitment and selection procedure the applicants have realized their strengths and shortcomings which could be improved upon”. It was the significant employment event when more than 8 reputed software organisations like Punjab State e-Governance Society, CS Soft Solutions, SWAP IT HUB, Cybertron Technologies, Worksdelight , Next Page IT Solutions, Aviox Technologies Pvt Ltd ,Virtual Reality Expert etc. have come at one place and offered jobs to the aspiring professionals. The students who have completed their graduation and post graduation in computer science or those are into their final year of studies availed the opportunity to get job. They said this was a great experience for them where they have option to choose from many companies and select the sector in which they want to make their career.
Mata Gujri College organizes One Week Theatre Workshop
Mata Gujri College inaugurated one week theatre workshop on the subject ‘Theatre-basic information, necessary elements and Importance’. On this occasion, Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh said,” Theatre presents problems and complexities of the society. This theatre workshop will improve artistic skills of the students and it will enhance their confidence.” On this occasion, renowned actor and playwright Rajwinder Samrala arrived as the keynote speaker and he acquainted students about the various aspects of the theatre items. He answered all the questions asked by the students. More than 110 students participated in this workshop
PG Department of Computer Science organised a Guest Lecture on "Virtual Reality"
PG Department of Computer Science, with an aim of encouraging and providing a platform for students to work on latest and cutting edge technologies, conducted a guest lecture on “Virtual Reality”. Mr. Avneet Singh, a former student of the department and Business Analyst at VR Xpert, Chandigarh, was the resource person.The students of MCA-II, BVoc(SD)-II, BCA-III ,MSc(IT) and PGDCA attended the lecture. The lecture started with an overwhelmingly warm welcome by Prof. Rashmi Arora, Head, Department of Computer Science. She expressed her gratitude towards Director-Principal, Dr. Kashmir Singh , for providing the motivation and support to organise such programmes and invite experts from industry who share their knowledge, expertise and experience with the students. During the lecture, Mr. Singh made an impressive presentation on fast emerging technology of Virtual Reality and described the profound ways of how Virtual Reality can be put to use in industry, business and operations. He gave a practical demonstration of Virtual Reality Headset. He motivated the students to think about a problem and its solution and then try to bridge the gap between the two. The guest lecture was followed by an interactive session in which students as well as the faculty members had a question answer session with the guest. The lecture ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Navdeep Singh. All the faculty members of the department were present during this lecture.
PG Department of Computer Science Organized Campus Placement Drive
PG Department of Computer Science conducted a campus placement drive on 21st February, 2019. The students of MCA & MSc(IT) participated in this drive. Mr. Rohit Soni (Business Development Manager) and Mr. Abhishek Sood (Business Head), CS Soft Solutions, Mohali and Ms. Janpreet Bedi (Head Operations) from Appin, Alt Foundation, Chandigarh, visited the college for placements. The companies shortlisted the students on the basis of an aptitude and mental ability test. The students have practiced a lot for the preparation of the drive and the department has arranged many workshops for students on latest topics. Director-Principal, Dr. Kashmir Singh appreciated the efforts and said that making students job-ready is our main focus. He further added that the college is taking major initiatives for training and placement of the students in prestigious companies. Prof Rashmi Arora, Head, Department of Computer Science wished the students for their bright career and motivated the students to appear with great enthusiasm in their upcoming interviews. She said that we are expecting more companies to visit the college for training and placement in near future.
Five Days Workshop on “Network Simulation and Open Source Technologies”
PG Department of Computer Science has organized a five-day workshop on “Network Simulation and Open Source Technologies”, from 28th January 2019 to Ist Febuary 2019.The objective of this workshop is to impart knowledge on network simulation and to explore an open simulation environment for computer networking projects and research. The targeted audiences are PG students of the department. The workshop started with welcome address that was given by Prof. Rashmi Arora HOD, PG Department of Computer Science. She introduced the resource person Mr.Gaurav Kumar, (Director,Magna Research and Consultancy Services, Ambala) and motivated the students to actively participate in this workshop and learn the advance technologies. Prof. Devinder Singh, convener of the workshop gave a brief introduction about objective of this five days workshop and Network Simulation on which the workshop is focused. The Honourable Director-Principal of Mata Gujri College, Dr. Kashmir Singh gave the welcome speech. He motivated the faculty and students for participating in technical events like short term training program, workshop, expert talk, etc. He also congratulated the department for organizing such workshops. He also appreciated the efforts made by Computer Science department with the great coordination. The students seemed to be very enthusiastic to attend the workshop and learn about the advance technologies rather than the traditional ones, which will ultimately help them in placements.
PG Department of Computer Science organized Industrial visit
PG Department of Computer Science, Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, organized an Industrial visit of BCA and BVOC students to Siblicode Software Solutions, Mohali. Students got an opportunity to know the work culture of IT Industry. They got an exposure to the latest Technologies used in the IT sector and got the knowledge required for getting Jobs in IT sector.CEO of the Company Mr. Nitish interacted with the students and guided the students to select the areas like web development, mobile application development & software testing etc. and its importance in the current software market. Many students asked different questions to the Technical Head on recent technologies used in software development and current market scenarios and he cleared all the doubts of students about the technologies used in the IT sector. Dr. Kashmir Singh, Director-Principal said that such industrial visits are very important for students as it improves the knowledge of the students and raise enthusiasm to work hard to improve their knowledge and skills. Dr. Navdeep Singh and Prof. Joga Singh accompanied the students during industrial visit.
Training & Placement Cell Organizes Placement Drive
Training and Placement Cell of Mata Gujri College organized a placement drive by All soft solution services private limited( IBM training partner). The students of MBA, MCA, Msc IT , BBA, BCA were eligible for placements.66 eligible students participated in this drive. 26 were shortlisted in first round of aptitude test, 16 were shortlisted in GD and finally 11 students were shortlisted after personal interview.
