Annual Debate Competition Organized By Geography Department - 17th September 2019
Department of Geography, Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib organized Annual Debate competition and Workshop on Public Speaking. Students presented their individual views on the topic of ‘Would India become a corruption-free country?’ 16 teams from various departments of the college participated in the competition. Participants clearly mentioned the culture of bribery as a root cause of the problem. The Director-Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh said that only the path of awareness of fundamental rights and duties can help to eradicate these kinds of issues. Guest of honor Prof. S. C. Sharma elaborated the importance of public speaking among the youth. He said that students can have bright future by attaining the skills of public speaking. He added that these kinds of debate and discussions can help in eradicating the contemporary local and global issues. Prof. S. C. Sharma introduced the students with the various techniques of public speaking. Head of the department of Geography, Prof. Anupreet Singh Tiwana said that the department organizes such kinds of competitions very often to inculcate the creative skills among the students. Karanpreet Singh (Computer science) got the first prize, Simarjeet Kaur (Public Administration) got the second prize, Harman Kaur (English) got the third prize and students of JMC, Mandeep Singh and Jancy Puri got the overall running trophy. Prof. Satpreet Kaur, Dr. Jagjiwan Singh, Prof. Pardeep Kaur, Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Dr. Harjeet Kaur, Prof. Talwinder Singh and students in large numbers were present on the occasion. Prof. Navdeep Kaur conducted the stage successfully.

Paper Reading Contest - 10th September, 2019
The Computer Student Welfare Association of Post Graduate Department of Computer Science organized a paper reading competition on 10th September 2019. About 20 students of BCA –I and BVoc(Software Development)- I participated with great fervour.
Addressing the students on this occasion, Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh said, “These types of competitions help to boost up the confidence of the students and also enhance their reading habits.”He appreciated the efforts of student association for organizing this event.
On this occasion, Dean Computer Science, Prof Rashmi Arora stated the main objective of the competition was to encourage and develop the students’ public speaking and oratory skills. The students presented their papers on the topics- Impacts of Social Media, Man and Nature and Pros and Cons of Using Mobile Phones.
In this competition, Simranpreet Kaur of BVoc(SD)-I got first position, Preeti Saggu of BCA-I got second position whereas Sukamrit of BCA-I got third position. Arsh Behl of BVoc(SD)-I got the consolation prize.
Congratulating the winners, Head of UG Computer Courses , Dr Harjeet Singh motivated the students to participate in such contests because it helps to develop their overall personality. Head of PG Computer Courses, Prof, Mukesh Kumar, Dr Sangeeta Joshi , Prof Birinder Singh Sarao and other faculty members of the department were present on this occasion.
Paper Reading Competition- August 9, 2019
The Commerce Association (Registered) of Post Graduate department of Commerce of Mata Gujri College organised a Paper Reading Competition. A total of 56 students of B.Com, B.Com Hons, B.Com Accounting and Finance (1st year) participated with great enthusiasm.

Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh said, “The participation of students in such competitions signifies that the students are aware about their all round development along with attaining bookish knowledge.” While appreciating the participation of the students, he said that such events develop a reading interest among the students and also increases the knowledge related to the language.

On this occasion, Dean Commerce Department Dr. Bikramjit Singh said that such competitions increase the knowledge of the students, brings out a great command over language and also improves their pronunciation.

The students presented their papers on the topics; National Education Policy 2019, Water Crisis in Punjab , Bullying and its Impact on Youth and War against Drugs. In this competition, Gurpreet Kaur of B.Com 1st year got first position, Gurpreet Kaur of B.Com (Hons.) 1st year got second position whereas Shivam Sood of B.Com Accounting and Finance got third position. Divya, student of B.Com 1st year got consolation prize.

The function was organised by the students of M.Com Part I and II. Head PG Department of Commerce Dr. Harjeet Kaur, Head UG Department of Commerce Prof. Mohd. Anwar, staff members and students were present on this occasion.
