Dr. Sourav Gupta ,Head, Department of Biotechnology, received research project worth 25 lakh from ICMR
Head of the Department of Microbiology, Mata Gujri College, Dr. Sourav Gupta has received a research project from the Indian Council of Medical Research. In this research, Dr. Sourav Gupta will make nanoparticles using microorganisms to control the release of unwanted substances from antibiotics. College Director Principal Dr.Kashmir Singh Congratulated Dr. Saurav Gupta and said that research is the most important part of our educational system. Every teacher should do as much research as possible so that students can also be encouraged to do research and develop new concepts. Dr. Sourav Gupta said that he has achieved this success. with the help of Dr. Kashmir Singh, Dean Academics Dr.Bikramjit Singh and UGC Coordinator Dr.Anupreet Singh.He said that the facilities available in the college labs have been very helpful to him. He also informed that he would complete the project in three years and would get a grant of about Rs 25 lakh in this regard.
Mata Gujri College gets a grant of 1.42 crores under 'Star College' Scheme
Mata Gujri College has got a grant of 1.42 crores under the "Star College" Scheme by the Department of Science and Technology of Government of India. It must me mentioned here that biotechnology, computer science, mathematics,botany , physics, chemistry , zoology and agriculture departments of the college had been awarded "Star Status"by DBT,Government of India's Department of Science and Technology for their excellent performance . Director-Principal , Dr Kashmir Singh said that this grant will be used for modernization of laboratories and to provide necessary equipment required by the students for conducting practical experiments. This grant can also be utilized for funding research projects being done by the students.Dr Singh said that the students will be sponsored to visit the major science institutes of India.He appreciated the efforts of Program Coordinator , Ms Pardeep Sandhu, Convener of UGC Cell, Prof Anupreet Singh Tiwana, Deputy Convener Dr Saurabh Gupta and their team.
Mata Gujri College signs Accord with Synergy University Moscow
Mata Gujri College has added yet another achievement to its name by signing a MOU with the Synergy University, Moscow to provide its students a golden opportunity to study internationally. Discussing about the accord, Director Principal of the college Dr. Kashmir Singh, said that, “This agreement includes Student Exchange, Teacher Exchange and Dual Degree Program. As per the agreement, the students who will duly qualify will be sent to the Synergy University for the study purposes along with one teacher for the duration of two weeks. The teachers of the Mata Gujri College will teach the students over there and our students will study under the teachers of the Synergy University. Both the educational institutions will also organize Seminars and Workshops time to time”. The Head of International Department of Synergy University Anastasia Shanshina while expressing her pleasure said that this agreement will prove to be beneficial for both the educational institutions. The students will be provided every opportunity in academics and they will be able to reach new heights internationally. The best thing, she further added, is that that under the Double Degree Program, the students of Commerce and Management Department will complete their last year in the Synergy University and then get their degree from there. To make this program successful, the Professors of both the educational institutions will design the syllabus of the courses unanimously so that the students do not face any difficulties and there are no discrepancies in the syllabus. Bhai Gobind Singh Longowal, President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, applauded the college on its achievement and said that the college has previously achieved the status of Autonomous College, Star College and received grade ‘A’ from NAAC following its good functioning and now these efforts at an international level are commendable. Chief Secretary of SGPC, Dr. Roop Singh, while congratulating the Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh, staff members and the students, said that it is the need of the hour to offer students opportunities to grow at an international level. S. Avtar Singh Sampla, Educational Secretary of SGPC said that because of its achievements, Mata Gujri College has a distinguished recognition among the educational institutions of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. Such initiatives are helpful in the betterment of the students’ future. S. Ranjit Singh Libra- Honorary Secretary of the Governing body of the College also congratulated all the staff members and students. During this, Dr. Bikramjit Singh Sandhu- Examination Controller and Dean Commerce Department, Dr. Harjit Singh, D. Jagdish Singh, Dr. Navdeep Singh, Prof. Gauri Handa, Prof. Navjeet Kaur, Prof. Sangeeta Joshi, Prof. Birinder Singh Sarao, Lalit Joshi, Prof. Dalip Singh and other senior teachers were present.
Mata Gujri College gets "Star College" status
Mata Gujri College has added another feather in its cap of achievements. It has attained ‘Star College Status’ under the scheme of "Star College" by the Department of Biotechnology of Government of India.
Talking about this, Dr. Kashmir Singh Director - Principal of the college, said that the status has been provided to the college with the blessings of Mata Gujri Ji, guidance of SGPC President Bhai Gobind Singh Longowal and the support of the Secretariat, SGPC. The status was given due to the excellent performance by the Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology, Zoology, Botany, Maths, Agriculture and Computer Science departments of the college. He also informed that prior from this, the college has also been conferred the status of Autonomous college and has been re- accredited 'A' grade by NAAC.
Expressing his happiness, the Director Principal also told that this status has been achieved under the Star College Scheme initiated by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India. Under this scheme, the students of Undergraduate classes of Sciences will also be given minor projects and the grant of 1.5 Crore to 2 Crore will be used to make Science Labs well- equipped and also upgrade the required instruments in the labs for the practical of the students, so that the students are provided with ample opportunities to grow and excel. Along with this, the students will also be taken to visit the various National Science Institutions.
Bhai Gobind Singh Longowal, President of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee congratulated the college on this success and said that two more colleges of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, apart from Mata Gujri College, have come under this scheme including Guru Nanak College, Budhlada and Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College, Anandpur Sahib. On this achievement, Dr. Roop Singh, Chief Secretary of SGPC and S. Ranjit Singh Libra, Honorary Secretary of the college also congratulated the whole SGPC family. On this occasion, Dean of the Science Departments Prof. Pardeep Kaur, Heads of the various departments and the staff members were also present.
Geography Students Completed ISRO Course
Students of Geography Department of Mata Gujri College have participated in the course on Basics of Remote Sensing, GIS and Global Navigation Satellite System conducted by Indian Space Research Organisation, Dehradun. During the four months course expert scientists across the country have taught the students regarding technical aspects of Space Science, Geography, Geoinformation Science and Geospatial Techniques. Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh praised the Geography students for their achievement and said that man made satellites have changed the scenario in human life and such inventions are quite important for the country and students should always take the interest in such subjects for their bright future. Prof. Anupreet Singh Tiwana is the coordinator and he has always played an active role for the benefit of the students by making them aware of the importance of the space science. Simrandeep Kaur, one of the student of Geography and participant of online course has told that she has gained great experience during the whole course as she got chance to learn from the faculty of Indian Institute of Remote Sensing. She also added that it is a matter of proud in itself to be a part of ISRO and being the student of Geography she has got this opportunity. Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Department of Geography has helped the students in their registrations and online examination. She told that ISRO is conducting these courses every year without any fee for developing trained professionals in the field of Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics and GNSS technology for Natural Resources, Environmental and Disaster Management. Students from Geography, Agriculture, Physics, Microbiology, etc. Can participate in such courses. Rahul Kumar, Sailesh Mishra, Inderpal Singh, Jaskamal Singh, Anjali Vartia, Pooja Sharma, Sapna Vartia, Megha Kakkar, Simrandeep Kaur, Prabhjot Kaur, and Talwinder Singh has got the certificates from IIRS, ISRO.
